Talking About Film & Collecting with Nathan Jones

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking with fellow film enthusiast Nathan Jones for his YouTube channel. The two of us sat down together and Zoomed for, like, the longest time (over 2 hours!). It’s amazing how quickly time flies when you’re having fun talking about the stuff you love most. In our case, that’s movies and collecting physical media.

If you’re interested, I’d love it if you checked out the video we filmed for his channel. Nathan chose the best bits of our conversation and edited it down to a succinct 40 minutes. We had a blast and I think that shows!

I first discovered Nathan’s YouTube channel a few months ago when he did a collaboration with Elliot Coen (another film enthusiast favourite of mine). The online film fan community is a super-cool one filled with amazing, welcoming and knowledgeable people and it’s an honour to be included among their ranks.

I think I may write a blog post soon listing all of my favourite film enthusiast channels – would you guys be interested in that? I’d love to be able to spread the love and recommend my very favourite channels to you.

  1. Enjoyed this video chat immensely. You always express such wonderful passion and eloquence.
Nathan too of course. And the interview with Daisuke was great also. It’s a great film community out there, speaking as someone just looking in.
But I wonder, like you, would the filmmakers and actors of the past ( I’m specifically thinking of the 20’s and 30’s) have possibly known that their work would have survived in this way, decades on? Especially as even as they were working back then films films were being lost at an incredible rate. Only a small percentage of silent films, for example, have survived the years. Though thankfully what we have is wonderful.

    1. Thank you so much, Garry! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It was awesome getting the chance to speak with Nathan face-to-face about film and collecting. Yes, the online film community is such a fantastic one and incredibly welcoming to boot! It’s a great little space for sure. I like to think that the actors/actresses/directors/producers of the past would have been thrilled knowing that their work is appreciated so much by so many decades and decades later. Our passion for classic film is a true testament to the work these talents created.
