Weekend Recap: 5-6 Jan 2019

Wow guys. This weekend was … something else. It was a super-busy one for sure, but it was the kind of busy that made me happy, y’know?

Saturday, January 5th

Saturday was an absolute whirlwind of activity and I didn’t stop for one moment between 6:00 AM and well after lunch time. The first thing I did was put on a load of laundry (bed sheets), empty the dishwasher, and skip on over to Walmart for my weekly shop.

I stopped by my parents’ house afterwards to drop off a few groceries and to pick up a step ladder and the new area rug I had delivered to their house last week. With my car trunk loaded to the brim with goodies, I went home, unpacked the weekly shop, and got started on changing my smoke detector batteries, vacuuming the apartment, and then laying down my new rug in the living room (it’s this one from Wayfair).

Next, I cooked up a big batch of vegetable and bean stew. I hate cooking and just being in the kitchen in general, so I try to always get my cooking for the week done in one day (Saturdays). I made enough stew to last me an entire week and that’s what I’ll bring for lunch every day when I go to work. I know this method won’t work for everyone, but it works for me. And the less time I spend in the kitchen, the better!

A bad migraine struck out of nowhere later that afternoon, so I spent the rest of the day lounging around the apartment watching British shows from the 1970s and inhaling endless bowls of Cheerios and granola.

Sunday, January 6th

Sunday morning heralded another weekly clean and once I finished scrubbing the apartment from top to bottom, I ventured back to my parents’ house to return their step ladder and get started on a massive book purge. My parents’ basement is where my classic film book collection is stored and slowly, little by little, I’ve spent the last couple weeks transporting the books from their house to my apartment.

The trips back and forth seemed almost never-ending and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to fit my entire collection on my new bookshelves in the condo. Something had to give, and thus another book purge was had.

On Sunday afternoon I ended up saying goodbye to around twenty books. Books that had been in my collection since the late-’90s. Back then, I used to write the date I received the book on the inside cover so when I went through them on Sunday afternoon, I knew exactly how long I had owned these books for. In some ways it was eye-opening; to think I held onto them for almost twenty years is absolutely astounding (especially considering how often I declutter).

Even with those twenty-or-so books gone, I was still left with heaps of other film books to house. Transporting them from one place to another has turned into such a daunting task, I swear, but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. By the end of this month, I hope to finish this task and finally be done with it. My biceps are bulging just thinking about it.

…And then the 2019 Golden Globes happened. Guys. You know how obsessed I am with Rami Malek, Queen, and Bohemian Rhapsody right? Well! Rami and Bohemian Rhapsody ended up taking two of the top awards of the evening – Best Actor (Drama) and Best Picture (Drama)! Okay, I knew Rami was an almost sure thing for the Best Actor trophy, but the film actually winning Best Picture was a total shock! Like, so much of a shock that I actually burst out laughing when Bohemian Rhapsody was called out.

Brian May, Rami Malek, and Roger Taylor (!!!) celebrate at the Golden Globes

Well, that about wraps up another perfectly stellar – if mega-tiring – weekend. How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything good? And did you watch the Golden Globes?
